- Investigate Grace Library in November
On November 5, 1857 Ida Tarbell was born. Ida Tarbell was one of the leading investigative journalists (otherwise known as "muckrakers" ) of her day and was from western Pennsylvania. Celebrate Ida's 150th birthday by doing a little investigating of your own of the library's newest "muckraking" book display!

- New Psychology Database - PsycINFO
In support of Carlow's new counseling psychology doctoral students and faculty,
the Library has added the PsycINFO database. PsycINFO contains nearly 2.3 million citations and summaries of peer reviewed scholarly journal articles, book chapters, books, and dissertations, all in psychology and related disciplines. Some date as far back as the 1800s.
- Set Sail on the Ship of the Banned
Banned Books Week is a reminder to all to exercise their freedom to read. Grace Library is commemorating the 26th year of this celebration with a display of banned or challenged books. Take a look at the top shelf of the display to see the (surprising) number one most banned book series of the 21st century.

- Welcome
Welcome to the new school year! The library staff was busy this summer putting the final touches on the new online library catalog. The new online catalog includes an easy to search interface, a listing of class reserves and a "My Library Account" feature that you can use to renew materials and place holds on books. Stop by the library soon for a demo of this new system or just click on the link called "Online Catalog" on the right hand side of this page.

- Welcome Back Andrea
Andrea Leyko has recently been appointed as the Coordinator of Public Services at Grace Library. Andrea comes to Carlow with a wealth of library experience. She most recently worked at Robert Morris University but previously worked here at Carlow in the Technical Services Department of the Library. We are glad to have you back Andrea!

Laura Hughes recently started at Grace Library as the new Circulation Assistant. Laura is an Art Education major here at Carlow and worked previously at the library as a work study student. Welcome Laura - we're happy to be working with you!

- Library Research - now better than ever...
The library staff is very close to completing the nine month process of installing a new online library catalog. Keep an eye out over the next few weeks - you'll soon be able to use this new system by going to library online catalog page.
Among it's many features, this new system offers:
- A "My account" feature that you can use to view a list of library materials you have borrowed, renew items, and place holds on items.
- Easier access to the system for students and faculty located off campus.
- A full list of all materials that your professors have placed on reserve with links to those items placed on Electronic reserves.
- An easier searching interface so you can find what you need fast!
- Brain candy
Take a break from all that studying and treat your brain to some of the popular novels and non fiction books that we have on display in the library this month.

- Celebrating Women's History in March
What do painter Mary Cassatt, writer Gertrude Stein, journalist Nellie Bly and jazz singer Mary Lou Williams all have in common? All of them were born or lived in Pennsylvania. Learn more about influential Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania women from the display this month in Grace Library.

- Abolitionists
2007 marks the 200th anniversary of abolition in the United Kingdom. On March 25, 1807, a bill to abolish the slave trade in the British West Indies became law due to the efforts of William Wilberforce, a prominent British abolitionist. Take a moment to learn more about the brave men and women who fought to end slavery both in the United States and abroad - people like Sojourner Truth, Abbey Kelley and Frederick Douglass. Books about the battle to end slavery are on display this month at Grace Library.
