...borrow materials?
Look on the back of your Carlow University ID card (if you have one). If
there is a 14-digit barcode number on the back, then you are already
registered in the library system and can borrow materials from Grace
Library.
If you do not have a Carlow University ID card or there is no barcode
on the back of your ID card, fill out a Grace Library Registration Form
(available during the Orientation Photo ID sessions or at Grace Library).
Submit the completed form at the Student Life Office when you get your
Carlow ID picture taken or take it to the library. You can obtain a library
barcode number in either location.
There is no limit to the number of items that you can borrow from the
library.
...view my library account?
Access the library’s web page and click on the link for Grace Library's Online Catalog. Once you are in the online catalog look in the top right hand corner and enter in your complete library barcode number without spaces (from the back for your Carlow ID) in the appropriate box. If you are not sure of your PIN contact the library for assistance. You will not see a new page after logging in; however, now you can click the My Account link in the grey toolbar that runs near the top of each page to see what you have borrowed, renew your materials, change your PIN and place a hold on materials.
....find out if the library owns a specific
book or video?
From any computer on campus you can access the library’s web page and
click on the link for Grace Library's Online Catalog. From there you can
search to see a listing of what Grace Library owns.
...access library databases?
If you are on campus, go to the Grace Library home page and select
the link for Find Articles. All library
databases are available from computers located on Carlow's main Oakland
campus and in the Cranberry and Greensburg Centers.
If you are not on campus, go to the Grace Library home page and
click on the link for Off Campus Access. This page will indicate what databases
are available from off campus and how you can connect to them.
...find a periodical article?
Many of the library’s online periodical indexes offer the full text
of periodical articles. If the full text is available for printing, this
will be indicated by a note in the record for the article. A note will
also indicate if Grace Library subscribes to this periodical in the print
format.
A rolodex master list of the library’s print periodicals is available
on the second and fourth level of the library. The Journal Title List is also available on the Library’s web page or
in a printed form in the library. This list indicates if a periodical
is available, in what format it is available, and its location.
...find materials my professor has placed on reserve?
If your professor has said that the materials are on the E-Reserve (Electronic
Reserve) system, go to http://library.carlow.edu/ereserves.html and
follow the instructions there for accessing reserve materials online.
If your professor has said that the materials are
on reserve in the library you can come to Grace Library and ask at the Circulation
Desk for the materials. You will need to know the name or the course number of your class and your
professor’s name. For some reserve materials you will be required
to leave an ID card at the Circulation Desk while you use the materials
in the library.
A full listing of the reserve materials can be viewed by connecting to the Grace Library's Online Catalog and clicking on the toolbar button called Reserve Desk. You can then search by course name, course number or your professor's name.
