Books |
Students must produce a currently validated and bar-coded Carlow I.D. card in order to borrow materials. The loan period for circulating books is THREE WEEKS. You may take out as many books as you need. Books may be renewed as many times as desired, provided they have not been requested by another patron. More information on renewing items can be found on the
Renew Library Materials page.
Some reserve materials circulate on a 1 day, 3
day, or 7 day basis, although many are on a "Library Use
Only" basis.
We must ask that you leave an I.D. card at the Circulation
Desk when signing for "Library Use Only" materials.
It will be returned to you upon return of the materials to
the
desk.
You may place a hold on a book that is charged
out to another patron. Once the requested book is returned, you
will receive a notice in the mail informing you that it is available
for you to charge out. The library will hold a book for you for
7 days. Ask at the Circulation Desk to place a hold on a book
that is circulating.
Reference books do not circulate.

| Periodicals |

| Videos,
DVDs and Other Audiovisual Materials |
Video tapes and DVDs are located in the Video
Center, Room 230 on the 2nd Level of the Library. The room
is kept locked but you may request any video at the Circulation
Desk. You
can find out if the library has a particular video by searching
the Library Online Catalog or by
browsing the Video List posted outside of Room 230. With
the exception of those videos placed on reserve for a class,
videos and DVDs may be checked out of the library for three
weeks or viewed on
a machine in room 234 or room 235. The VCR/DVD players
in rooms 234 and 235 are available for use at any time by giving
your
Carlow
I.D.
to the staff member at the Circulation Desk. However, the Video
Center can be accessed only when a librarian is present.*
*If you would like to view or check out a video/DVD
when a librarian is not present (9pm-midnights on Mondays -
Thursdays and Sunday afternoons) then please call the Circulation
Desk ahead
of time and ask the librarian to remove the video from the
Video Center and reserve it for you. The video will then be held
at the
Circulation Desk for you to view in-house or borrow during
those times that the library is open but no librarian is present.
Audiovisual materials such as records and cassette
tapes are located on the 4th level of Grace Library. These materials
are accessible during regular library hours and must be checked
out from the Circulation Desk. These items circulate for three
weeks. To borrow these materials a librarian need not be present.
|

Books should be returned to the Circulation Desk during hours
when the library is open. When the building is closed, books may

| Interlibrary Loan |

item you need is available only in a library outside the city,
you may obtain the material by requesting an interlibrary loan.
Bear in mind that interlibrary loans are made through the U.S.
Postal Service and require an average of two weeks to complete.
In the case of journal articles, the lending library will usually
not lend the journal but will photocopy the article for you. Many
libraries charge a fee for interlibrary loan and Grace Library
will recover any costs from you. Please remember that interlibrary
loan requests are subject to the copyright compliance law stated
below.
Copyright Compliance, Title 17, U.S.C The copyright
law of the United States (title 17, USC) governs the making of
photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials.
Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and
archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction.
One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction
is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study,
scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for,
or later uses, a photocopy for purposes in excess of "fair
use", that user may be liable for copyright infringement.
Carlow University, Grace Library reserves the right to refuse
to accept a copying order or an ILL request if, in its judgment , fulfillment of
the order would involve violation of the copyright law.
